AG-Law Partner Professor L. I. Athanassiou and Triantafyllos Stavrakidis D. Jur. participated in the Annual Congress of Comité Maritime International (CMI), held in Antwerp, from 18/10 to 21/10/2022, celebrating the 125 years of the Institution. The Congress was attended by many representatives of national maritime organisations and unions, academics and lawyers. Information and views were exchanged on various topics such as the arrest of ships, judicial sale of ships in a foreign state, the seafarers’ treatment, electronic documents of transport, contemporary case-law as well as the need for uniform interpretation of the international conventions etc.
At the same city, Prof. Athanassiou in 1996 was awarded with the Albert Lilar Prize, granted by the Foundation Albert Lilar in the context of CMI, for her PhD thesis “Legal aspects of maritime competition: a comparative study based on EC Law”. The Prize is awarded every three years to scientific works considered by the Board of Directors to have great merit and to serve the unification of maritime law or the development of comparative maritime law.
Next Congress will take place in Canada (Montréal), on June 2023.
