The new Private Maritime Code is just around the corner (1st of May 2023)
The new Private Maritime Code (Law no. 5020/2023) enters into force on the 1st of May 2023 (except for the electronic registration) and replaces the (already obsolescent) regime of Law no. 3816/1958. With 12 parts of substantive provisions and 293 articles, the new Private Maritime Code aspires to finally bring the regulatory framework of shipping, and all private legal relations concerning the operation of the ship, into the 21st century. It aims at a balanced and prudent reformation, based on international orientation, legal certainty, modernization and internal systemic unity, in a manner worthy of the international dynamics of our shipping industry and on an equal level with the main foreign legal orders.
